Refurbs are a good choice to buy since at least 99% of the time you probably won't find any glitches or defect b/c they are tested...:) MB would be a wise choice for you first Mac computer if you aren't doing anything intensive like video editing etc.. :)

What do you mean though by video editing? I was thinking about transfering my old 8mm video to my new laptop. Will this not be an option with this computer?

If you don't know what this means, then it probably won't matter.

By graphic intensive, they're talking about programs like Final Cut Pro and the 3D modeling programs that are best reserved for Pro machines. iMovie should work just fine.

Also games, if you are a casual gamer than you might be fine. Just get a 2nd magsafe charger they always help :).
