After 4+ years with my lovely Powerbook G4 15", I'm thinking I should consider an upgrade. I've realized that I rarely make use of my notebook's portability, which makes me think I might as well go for the 17" model.

However, for some reason, the 15" and 17" refurbished models with equivalent specs (2.5ghz, 2GB RAM, 512MB vRAM) differ in price by about $500-$600. Does the increase in size justify that much more substantial a price tag?

To me it doesn't. The 15" MBP is a great machine, and the money you save can be spent on an external monitor that will provide way more screen real estate than the 17" MBP.
