I'm looking to get one of these. The thing that makes me a bit iffy on it though is that this is the model originally released in June 2012. Apart from the slightly shorter battery life and the (I'm assuming) slower flash storage, are there any other disadvantages to purchasing this over a more recent model? Unfortunately, this is the only 15" Retina option available in the NZ refurbs at this point, and I need something soon.

You're getting a really powerful rMBP with a dedicated GPU and a large SSD. It looks like a good deal to me.

I guess to break it down, do you want to buy a base 2013 model for NZ$ 3,049 or the refurb model with 16GB, 768GB of storage for NZ$ 3,588.00

I'm with Mike. The 2012 models have been and remain a very good deal. In day to day usage, most people would be hard pressed to tell the difference between one of those and one of the early or late 2013 models.
