I probably won't be able to pick one of these macbooks up until late June. I'm wondering how long do you guys think it'll take until we see some refurbished models?

The retina imacs were released in October last year and the refurbished unit showed up in January. Is that usual? Can we expect the same here?

Yes, that is a reasonable timeframe for this one, too.

i think the time frame on this model will be different.

last year's MacBooks were truly available right after release, lots of people can buy them, and maybe return them or whatever.

but this macbook? yes, it's release in march, but i don't think we can even hardly say it's on the same availability level as last year's MacBooks's release.

So three months from about a week ago puts us at mid July. I wonder what the price will be. $1100 USD for a base model?

If you are near a Best Buy a 10% movers coupon gets you pretty close to that $1,100 mark brand new never touched. $1,239 with tax $1,233 if you are near or live somewhere without tax on electronics.

Tough to gauge refurbs for this laptop since the inventory is so low already. But, a small percentage will always be returning them to stores. I would check store inventory, never know when someone will return one the day before.

I'm in Canada. I'm not sure those coupons work here.

Very fair point - three to four months from the end of April, as a guess. Even then, Apple batches these, and we don't know how fast returns will accumulate at Apple.

I've never seen an open box computer at an Apple Store. I think 100% of returns go back to be accumulated, then are sent out in a batch for remanufacturing. Best Buy, Microcenter or other ARs would have open boxes, though.

oops.. i'm an idiot.. i was calculating from $1100 because I was working off the guess from sasha... basically, I think i need more sleep.

Up too late on macrumors, like me??? :)

I think it's hilarious that I'm obsessing over a few tech purchases (rMB and a riMAC) so that I can work more effectively and yet any gains made there when I actually get this gear is totally off put by the fact that I spend so many hours here on this forum trying to figure it all out.

Yes, it is silly. But it's fun. It's my nerdy social outlet. :)

I'm fairly sure your numbers are off there. Tax makes more than a $6 difference and if the mover's coupon saves 10%, well that brings the base price to around $1170 without tax.
