Is there a way to make it Region Free?

The drives themselves are region free, it's the software DVD Player that locks the Mac to a region. Use VLC Player instead of DVD Player and it will get round the problem.

It doesn't work for some of the newer dvd drives, you need a RPC-1 drive in order to do that with VLC I believe... which is kinda a... bummer

so far it is ok for my powerbook to play most DVDs... including from china. But recently i had another dvd from china that can only play on a dvd player instead my pb cannot read them... any idea? Does anyone know if it is possible for pb to play dvd like domestic dvd player? play smooth and region free like Vasileios had mentioned?
