Hi Guys,

Just want your opinion on this, So on my Apple TV 4K I have Netflix installed and I also have a VPN Service which fully supports accessing Geo-Location blocked content on Netflix to access content from other regions than mine. Now unfortunately I can access all the Netflix Content of other regions with this VPN service on the iPhone on the iPad in the MAC but it does not work on Apple TV.

Now Apple TV does not directly supports VPN service so you have to set up a VPN on your Wi-Fi Router, enable VPN from there and then access Apple TV but I am still not able to access Netflix of other regions. When I do the same steps on my other devices it works flawlessly.

Can you guys tell me what can I do ?

I see there is a region setting in one of the Set Up Screens in Apple TV Could it be because the region in my Apple TV is set to something else and I am trying to access content of some other region ? Could this be blocking it, but that is when a service like VPN comes in to picture ? Doesn’t it?

Or is it that? even with the VPN service enabled of other region, but if the region in Apple TV is selected something else, I will still not able to access other region content than the region selected in my Apple TV for Netflix ?

Your Thoughts ? Any help ?

Thanks !

Which VPN protocol are you using on the router? Which protocol are you using on your phone? Does the ATV's IP address fall within the range of IP addresses that have their data passed through the VPN?

Region settings on the ATV will not help to overcome the issue of geo-locked content.

Which VPN protocol are you using on the router? - UDP

I have not changed the IP Address on the Apple TV. Should I be entering a different IP in the DNS Settings of Apple TV ?

.- Yes you are correct it is not helping.

So what should I be doing ?

Are you using the same server on the phone and router?

If all of the traffic is being sent through the VPN on the router, try accessing these other Netflix locations with your phone via the router's WiFi. If you can't access the same locations via the router VPN as you can on your phone, sounds like the router is not properly routing the data through the VPN.

Which router are you using? Does your router show the public and private IP address?

I have downloaded a VPN profile (Basically a UDP File of a Foreign Location and uploaded in the Wifi Router VPN Tab) for the VPN service I am using which I have to just enable going into the Asus Router Settings Page.

So there is no Phone involved here, I can start and stop the VPN service directly from the Router Settings Page.

Yes with the same method by enabling the VPN service on my Router I can access Netflix on any other device, Netflix lets me access GEO base locked Content very easily. Only on the Apple TV it is not letting me in

So the same Router with the VPN service enabled works for Geo Locked Content on all my other devices but the same method on the Apple TV does not work.

Weird because I can access geo-locked content on my Apple TV with a VPN on my router.

Is the ATV using the default network settings?

With default network settings ? What do you mean ? DNS Settings ? I have tried changing to 208.67.222.222 and also the default DNS settings on the Apple TV but that still it is not working ?

When I set up my atv, I just connected it to my router via wifi. Once set up, I turned on the router VPN and can access geo-locked content.

I am using an Asus router as well with Merlin firmware.

No Man ! If you are in one region how can you without a VPN access content of other region ? I am talking about with respect to Netflix.

I have a VPN running on my router and my Apple tv is connected via wifi to my router. I also have a Roku stick that is also connected to my router VPN to watch USA and UK content. I am in Canada.

Apple tv and Roku traffic are directed through the VPN tunnel.

Windscribe VPN has specific servers to access USA and UK Netflix which I use on my router.

Ok so in my case what do you suspect the problem is now ? I am very much trying to access Netflix the same way you are doing on your Router and Apple TV but the the VPN on the Router ?

I did not change my DNS settings and I can watch UK and USA Netflix with the VPN running on my router.

You know surprisingly HBO which is even not available in my region, even that works when I use the VPN, But why the hell Netflix does not play I really dont know ??

Netflix is very aggressive in disabling VPN access.

Who is your VPN provider?
Yep I agree !! That is what even Surfshark guys are telling me whose Service I use. Netflix is very aggressive in Blocking VPN Service Providers. But then that is what my question is how does it work on my iPhone, iPad and Windows Computer ?

Your iPhone, iPad, and windows computer are probably using a different protocol from the router.

The router is probably using OpenVPN Client UDP.

No I have double checked. I am pretty sure on this, They all are using UDP.

By the way that is a good food for thought. Should I change the Protocol and then check it ?

They are all using the same server?

A different protocol probably won't help because UDP is the best protocol to access geo-locked content.

Did you try logging out of Netflix and logging back in on the Apple tv with the VPN enabled?

Yep all on the same server so if I am accessing Surfshark Detroit Server which I enable it in my router my internet traffic is routed throught the Detroit Server and Yes I tried logging in and out while connected on the Internet. No difference.

Not sure what's going on and why this is happening.

I usually use a smartDNS service to access to USA content from Peacock, Hulu, HBO, Paramount, and AMC. I don't use USA Netflix since I have enough to choose from.
