Is there a way to change the DVD player's region w/o it counting toward the total number of changes?

thanks

How region changes work depends on your drive. With older RPC1 drives, the region code is stored in NVRAM on your Mac's logic board. With never RPC2 drives, it's stored somewhere on the drive itself. How to change the region code depends on the drive you're using. Some drives need a firmware patch, while others can be reset through software. What drive do you have? Look in System Profiler if you're not sure.

The only thing I know of to that end is to apply hacked firmware which allows all regions to be played.

Of course, you could rip the files to your computer without a region, then play them. This would take a long time, though.

but to even get the DVD's in your compy to rip them, you'd have to change the region or else the DVD would just be ejected.

or is there some other ripping method that's popped up?

yeah, sorry would've helped, i have a rev b 12" pwrbook, and it's got a Matshita DVD-R UJ-816. Thanks for the help.
