Seems like he was around forever. I see on Wikipedia he holds the Guinness World Record for the most hours on US television. RIP.

The thing I remember about him--and it shows his character--is that he was the standby guest on David Letterman's late night show. Whenever someone would drop out at the last minute, Dave could count on calling up Regis and asking, "Hey, can you fill in?" and Regis would always say, "Sure!"
