registration in 2 countries at same time possible?

hi,

is the following possible:

country 1, for example canada, you buy and register yr iPhone 3G
then when you go to the USA you bring yr iPhone to ATT and get a contract and ATT SIM.

can you register the same fon in 2 countries, keeping both contracts current and live? what is involved when you go back to country 1? do you need to re-register it in order to use it, or just pop in the original SIM?

its all to avoid roaming charges, ofcourse.
