Guys, I'm having far too many problems with my phone.

I want to reinstall the firmware but not loose all my data from the phone - contacts, calendar, photo's etc.

What's the best way to do this?

I know I can do a restore from a past sync but this would defeat the purpose of a fresh firmware reload, would it not?

If you are not on the latest firmware you can try the Update button in iTunes. If not a restore is the only way.

Note: Don't do this if you are jailbroken.

settings-general-reset-reset all settings

If that doesnt work then a full restore will have to do

BEst way to resolve software issue is to do a CLEAN restore and setup as a new phone
However, if you are dead set on keeping everything on the phone you can backup, then restore from that backup. There is a chance any issues you are having will sync back onto the phone with this method.

Also take note that even if you do restore from a back up, some in-app data will be erased

Thanks guys. Will try a restore from backup first. If that doesn't work a fresh restore it'll have to be :(
