Reinstalled iTunes -- Can't Get It To Read / Use My Library on External HD

I've been having some troubles with my iTunes so I uninstalled, found all those pesky iTunes files and folders lurking and moved them all to the trash, then downloaded and installed a clean version.

My music library is too big for my internal drive so I have it on an external drive in a folder called "iTunes music"

I went to the preferences / advanced and set that external folder as my "iTunes Music folder location" But nothing shows in iTunes.

The music is still there in the folder I just can't seem to get there.

Any thoughts?

I'm running OS X 10.4.11 on a G5 iMac with iTunes 8.2.1
