Reinstalled OS X 10.4 but now won"t drive my printer

I just reinstalled my operating system with the discs i was given when i bought my faithful macbook.
now the printer which I've always used, and which was plug and play when I first used it won"t work.
It recognizes the make and model (Canon iP2500) but the list of drivers in the printer set-up utility doesn't have mine on there. The list entirely consists of 'Gimp' drivers, and my printer isn't listed.
I have looked for support on apple and also at canon, but no joy.
Am i missing something simple?

i got it sorted last night when i got home semi-drunk from the pub.
