hey folks,

bit of help needed, im considering, depending on specs, buying a new macbook when the update comes, my question is, i back up my current contents on an external drive,so if and when i get a new macbook, will i be able to reinstall everything from my external drive onto my new mac? will this give me exactly what i had on my previous mac? including programs etc?

cheers! :)

I wish someone would answer you as I am contemplating buying a new imac & like you I back my current one up on an external HD & wonder if I can just transfer all the data across??

Yes. I'm not that aware of how Time Machine works going from one mac to another but your data should transfer to the new mac. Are you worried about your word documents and itunes files or do you mean items like your ical dates, address book entries and installed programs?

well basically all of the above. id want my itunes library, all my word files for work, microsoft office, adobe suite,my address book has alot of important stuff in it, but its also on my iphone which im sure would sync it back to a new mac.

if anyone knows id really appreciate any help, the buying of a sexy new aluminium macbook pretty much hinges on this issue!
