hello, is it possible to reinstall the operating system of my mac without losing all my personal files and programs that are installed, if not is there a prefs file i could backup so when i reinstall my programs i could import the prefs to them

IIRC There's an Archive and Install option.

This will keep everything, including the pervious system folder.
 
sorry for being thick but could you explain it a bit more, whats IIRC, if i put my system disks in will it ask if i want to just install the OS, i dont want to put my disk in and it just starts deleting everything, cheers

IIRC = if i recall correctly

Yes, it will ask before it does anything
It will not just start deleting things
 
i got 2 install disks and the snow leopard disk which should i put in first the install disks or snow leopard
