So I'm hoping this is the right section, my 2011 Macbook Air runs Mac OS X 10.7.5. My Air is running slower so I was going reinstall my OS. I read that you could choose to do a full reinstall or restore all files and settings (archive and install so I was going to do the latter. I backed up all my files onto my external HD and then when I read back over the information I had about reinstalling, it seemed like you had to have all your files backed up on time machine or something to be able to archive and reinstall, but time machine couldn't b set up (it couldn't find an air port or some such).
So... basically to archive and install/install my OS again with all my files and settings, do I need to have them backed up to Time Machine or would my external HD be sufficient? I appreciate all help ^_^
Here's my main source of reference/information (http://www.wikihow.com/Reinstall-Mac-OS-X-(Leopard-and-Earlier))
EDIT: Sorry, other question I forgot. How should I actually go about reinstalling the OS? That first source said I could do it from the computer (I'm assuming the Air doesn't install the OS with a CD as it has no CD Drive) but somewhere else said to restart it and press command and R
