I bought my UMB second hand, it was 3 months old at the time. Obviously it had OS X and some apps already installed. I then performed a migration from my old MB, and afterwards did a cleanup of duplicate apps etc.

I was wondering if it would be beneficial for me to perform a format and reinstall. On one hand I would like to do that and start with a clean slate, on the other it would be such a drag to have to redo everything, install apps, transfer all music again, etc etc.

What do you think I should do? What are the benefits of a fresh install?

Well, unless the previous user was very sloppy about his OS, I guess it shouldn't be needed - you won't notice much difference. However, if you start to see different software problems and slowdowns, give it a try.
