I currently have a network of a PC and an iMac, working off an AEBS. The AEBS was set up on the PC because it's right next to it and that's also where the cable modem is located. The iMac is wireless in another part of the house.
I plan to replace the PC with an iMac, and add a Time Capsule to back up both iMacs. Then I want to use the AEBS to run a dual-band network so that our iPhones and my office laptop don't slow down the Macs.
Here's my question: In what order should this all be undertaken?
I will have all the equipment at the same time, but I don't know if it's better to get the new iMac up and running on the existing network, or set up the Time Capsule/AEBS dual-band network on the PC and then switch out the PC for the new iMac.
It seems that there's an obvious speed improvement for downloading updates to the new iMac at "n" speeds, but I think it's going to be harder to set up the dual-band network on the PC. It's also possible to do a temporary set-up of the dual-band network on the existing iMac, but there's not enough room there for the modem, TC and AEBS to reside permanently. And I really don't want to be setting up and then taking down and moving stuff.
Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated.
