So, due to some renaming of user files hyjinks, my iTunes library was deleted. I still have all of the media, but I need to bring it back to iTunes. I should clarify that the files are still in the music folder in the iTunes folder and still organized by folders for artists, TV shows, seasons, etc. as they were for iTunes.

So, I opened iTunes and clicked the "Scan for Media" button. This brought back some, but not all, of my files. Aside from the fact that it was pretty disorganized many of my videos (TV shows and movies) were in the home video section, and I haven't even started looking at the music, not all the media was brought into iTunes. In short, it's a mess. And there's no rhyme or reason to what made it back to iTunes and what didn't.

I think I should remove everything from iTunes and start again, but I'm not sure how to copy everything back in iTunes in one fell swoop.

Suggestions?

The best thing to do is to pick up your Music folder and temporarily move it to somewhere (desktop). Then go into iTunes and delete everything. The go to Preferences > Advance and make sure "Copy files to iTunes media folder is selected.

Then drag and drop your music folder into iTunes, just drop it where the music would usually be listed. This may take a while depending on how big your library is but it'll put everything right and you wont have duplicates.
