Hopefully someone can help me and sorry if this is old/simple.

I want to move my finished torrents to my external harddrive and delete them off my actual harddrive but when I delete the data the torrent starts downloading again or is stuck not seeding.

Either set your default downloads folder to the external drive (so you don't need to move the file after it has finished), or when you have moved it, select the torrent from the download list and bring up the inspector. In the first tab at the bottom, change the 'where' location to the new external drive files location. You may want to 'verify local data' at this point to ensure its seeding correctly.

I have changed the the folder directory but I want to move older things from my harddrive to the external.

That first tab doesn't give me an option to change it only states where it is an the little magnifying glass to locate it.

Does this maybe have to do with the fact that I don't keep the .torrent files?

Just in case anyone stumbles across this with a similar problem I figured it out.

If you hover above the icon of the file to the left of the status bar it gives you a settings icon click on it and you will get a drop down list with the option to "Move Data To.."
