Although the spell check works well on a newly minted document, when I try it on an existing document after making changes it just says "spell check complete" and refuses to work even though I can see many mistakes. How do I overcome this?

spell check/correct in apple mail
I find that some days it works and other days it does not work,
Same with Keychain....some days it works and other days it does not.
The Geeks at Apple are ignoring basic apps we use everyday in favor
of more ways to interface with facebook or share information between the ipad, iphone as if we are all big executives moving between Hong Kong
and New York.

Reluctant spell check
I have tried highlighting a whole paragraph and then applying spell check and nothing happens. It still says "spell check complete". I have tried cheating by copying the whole file onto my laptop ( on windows) spell checking there and then copying back onto the iMac. It works but of course it is an exercise in futility!
