In OS X - various applications ( notably Safari ) " remember " what you type into the search boxes on web pages - I'd like to clear these fields to keep my searches private - is there any way to do this?

cheers in advance:)

You can use Private Browsing to not fill them in the first place (aka porn mode), or Safari > Preferences > Autofill to edit/clear certain lists, or History > Clear History to remove your web history.

The Google search bar can be cleared by clicking the magnifying glass next to it, and "Clear Searches".
