i have my desktop set up with the apps bar on the right and
whenever i boot the machine the hard drive icons come up
overlapped by the apps bar. every time i boot i have to drag
the drive icons somewhere else on the screen. how can i get
it to remember where i've placed them so they'll come up there
on the next boot? one wrinkle, i have two video cards in the
machine and am running four screens. the screen with the
apps bar is not the main port of card one. the cinema display
had to occupy that space. i forget why.

thanks,
BabaG

I suggest aliasing the drives into the dock and then selecting to hide the icons under finder preferenes.

Don't know if the problem can be fixed easily otherwise.

thanks BoughtAAPL@4.00. tried it and, although very slow, it seems to do
exactly what i want. already too much stuff on the dock. no room to
comfortably add four more drive icons so this seems a good way to go.

thanks again,
BabaG

Position the mouse over the separator line in the Dock so that the cursor turns into a 2-headed arrow. Click and Drag to make the Dock small enough not to overlap the icons on the Desktop. Best wishes.
