I actually had to look this up on the Apple site just to make sure I didn't do damage to my MBP. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204172. I had an older 09 MBP and frankly didn't care too much how I cleaned it after awhile.

Basically...power down. Damp, lint-free cloth on EVERYTHING, including non-screen parts. I personally used a alcohol wipe on the keyboard and parts of the aluminum, but Apple says to use just a water damp cloth on all parts. No paper towels and no chemicals.

Long story short, my toddler ejected milk onto my MBP. Milk if you didn't know is f'n deadly for your MBP and any other surface. Hard to remove set stains, hard to get off screen, etc. It wasn't enough of a direct line of fire shot to penetrate any holes in my MBP, but it was enough to be a mess to clean. The screen is particularly difficult to get a milky haze off of it. It took a few repeats to get that nasty haze off. My takeaway from this aside from stay away from toddlers while using the MBP, is that the touchbar should be cleaned the same way as the screen, water and cloth only. Hope this helps someone.
