If you enabled it, then yes.

Check out the keynote they had on iOS5. It shows that you can choose which messages/missed calls to respond to with just a swipe from the lock screen.

Lock screen reminder

You can download "Lock screen reminder" if you want just simple text reminders on the wallpaper. It is available on the apple app store for free. I hope you will find it usefull.
