Hi. Hoping someone can advise on the easiest and cheapest way to achieve the following:

My father has Parkinson’s disease and can no longer effectively operate his Windows 10 PC. However, he wants his many (self-created) music, movie and image files organised and distilled into a ‘best of’ collection. I would like to do this for him, but I live in Sweden and have a Mac running Monterey.

What’s the best method for me to gain remote control of his PC via my Mac, ideally including the ability to operate applications as well as do file management.

Thanks!

Microsoft Remote Desktop would require your father to have specific ports opened up on his internet connection so it's not a great option for this usage. He also would not be able to see what you're doing over Microsoft Remote Desktop as the screen is blanked out on the remote computer. Further, Remote Desktop isn't available by default in Home versions of Windows.
I would recommend Jump Desktop for this need. It supports cross-platform connections and if the agent is installed on the remote computer you won't have to leave ports open.

Parsec could also be an option; it's what I use to remote into my Windows 10 PC from my (monterey) mac. It might also require ports to be opened for you to access, though, I'm not sure (my pc is on the local LAN, and I haven't needed to access it from outside the house so I haven't researched the requirements to do so).
