Hello everyone, I am a relatively new mac user and so far have been figuring things out as i go along.

I have an interesting query that may not make sense but here goes anyway.

I run a mac mini as a media server/player connected to my plasma in the family room. I use plex as the server/player and it works a treat, however when someone is using plex to watch a video I would like to be able to remote into it to use a browser on my ipad. This of course proves difficult as when i remote in via vnc all i can see is the plex video. Is there a simple way to get access to a browser on my mac mini without interupting the plex playback?

I have added a new user account with fast switching enabled then using vine server given myself remote access to it and it worked ok but seemed to cause some lockups with plex and i found myself having to reset the mac a little more often that i would like.

I know i can probably go a Virtual Machine route but i would like to avoid this if possible due to the resources it would eat up.

is there another option? a remote accessible browser or something that i can view "behind" the plex instance? someone needs to make an app like this it would be useful to get flash etc on ipad.

If i must go the virtual Machine is there a recommended lightweight linux distro that is virtualbox friendly and pretty much is only a browser? I need to be able to browse the web and save files to the host machine and thats it. i did "google it" but there are so many version of linux that i don't know what would work best. I did try puppy linux but even that had more functons than i require and i dont know if a kiosk build would allow me to save files to the host machine.

sorry for the long question and thanks in advance for any advice.

PS. this could be avoided if Apple would allow saving files from ipad browser to a network share volume. i love my ipad but I wish it had better network integration.
