Remote Desktop Client 2.1.0 help pls

I'm trying to access a server running WHS but whenever i try using RDC 2.1.0 it cannot find the machine. i've been able to access it via several other windows based machines but never through the mac. i've also tried to access windows based laptops (win7, xp) to no avail.

is there any configuration i need to perform on the mac to enable this?

note. i've tried this over a WLAN and wired ethernet.
