Hi Everyone,
I'm starting this thread as I'm finding it really difficult how to use Remote Desktop to connect to my sister's PowerBook G4 running Tiger in Dubai. I've to configure her mac, and backup her data before she installs Leopard on it.
But since she just switched last year, and she only has basic knowledge of computing. I'm wanting to make sure that her data is properly backed up. Also, I'm going for a full re-install on her PowerBook, after which I'd like to again take control of her PowerBook from UK and configure it properly.
The problem is, she has got a ADSL connection in Dubai, and uses Siemens SpeedStream 6250 Modem+Wifi Router. I've been trying to figure out her real ip address, so that I can paste it in Remote Desktop, and send over the request for her computer to be controlled.
Remote Management has been enable on her PowerBook. I've found out her ip address by going to www.portforward.com because I couldn't see any other way of figuring it out.
Now, I've googled it for days, but I can't find how to configure her router so that we can open ports that remote desktop needs to access her computer. My Airport Extreme is configured properly here.
Can anyone guide me in the right direction regarding this matter? It should be simple enough to control a mac in a different country if you know the ip address and have remote desktop?
Or if there is any other way of doing it. Everyone's input is appreciated.
Cheers ..
