I am currently using team viewer to remote into my work PC from my macbook air. Does anyone have any better recommendations for consistency and does not format the mac screen to the screen size of the remote computer?

If it's a Windows PC (pro version). You can use Remote Desktop. It'll be more work to setup. But I think it's resolution isn't dependent on the host computer's resolution.

Jump Desktop. Not free but one of the best things I've bought on Mac. I use to connect to my local Windows machines and remote servers running Windows Server. It keeps the resolution you specify if you want. If the remote machine is Windows Home you can install Jump Desktop Connect on it (free) and use their "fluid" connection rather than RDP.
