Is there a way to enable file sharing from a Mac over the internet in the same way it can be enabled over LAN? Specifically, I am not looking to control my Mac (with VNC, etc.). I want to be able to open - not download, but simply open - remote files from another computer (usu a Mac) over the internet, but using the local computer's apps (ie., again - not talking about remotely controlling the host Mac).
I'd prefer not to have to use Back to My Mac, if possible, but even that solution has a huge drawback I can't seem to get around: it doesn't allow you to browse mounted hard drives - which is what I'm really after. (Of course, if there's a way to get around that problem with BTMM, I'm definitely open to that as well).
Any help with this problem would be MUCH appreciated, so thank you in advance.
