Ok, so I have just got a new router and have set it up in my home with no problems and life is just great
Now I got a bit bored and did some research and thought it might be fun to be able to access the home network remotely over the internet. At the moment I have no practical need to do this but I like to learn new things. In the router settings I have changed the remote management settings to enable and it gives me a management port of 51003 which is fine. The instructions with the router then says ...
Management Port
This is the port number you will have to connect to with your browser for remote management. The default value is 51003. This means that, if the gateway's public IP address is 12.34.56.78, you will have to type http://12.34.56.78:51003 into your browser's address bar to access the gateway.
However I am able to access the gateway whether or not I enter the 51003 onto the end of the public ip address.
This has confused me. Does anyone know why this might be?
Many thanks
