I just bought a brand new Vizio M-Series 55” TV. I wall-mounted the TV and bought a mount that attaches the Apple TV to the back of the television. I have done this in two other rooms and it works great.

The setup process went well and the remote works fine if I hold it behind the TV where the ATV4K is mounted. However, ten feet away while sitting on my bed, the remote is laggy and doesn’t respond properly. For instance, sometimes it registers a swipe as a click, etc.

Is it possible that something in the TV is interfering with the remote? Does anyone else have an ATV4K mounted to the rear of a television? I’d really like to avoid needing a table just to rest the device on...

There are no Bluetooth devices turned on which I’ve read could be an issue with the remote. I’ve updated the tvOS and re-paired the remote, but I don’t think this is the issue as the remote is fine when held at the rear of the television within inches of the ATV. It’s only when you walk a few feet away that it starts glitching out.

Maybe get a mount that puts the ATV on the top edge of the TV. I made one myself for my wall-mounted tv setup, it sits at the center of the TV. I made this a while ago, but I think there are a bunch of mounts that you can buy now.

This also makes it better for IR remotes.

Maybe something like this. I use this on two TVs and it works well. One has an ATV on it, the other a center speaker for my surround system. You can put two of these on most larger sets if you have other devices that need visible access.

I just use Velcro to attach the ATV to the back of the TV, as near to the top as possible without being seen. Works great!

This might work too, have you tried it with IR remotes?

I also use Velcro on the mount that I made, but only so I can quickly remove the ATV in case I want to take it with me somewhere.

Works perfectly with IR remotes. The signal bounces off the walls / ceiling to get to the ATV, so I just orient the box with the "front" pointing skywards. Then, just pointing the remote at the TV will do the trick.

What paint sheen do you have on your walls and ceiling? I know that others have used this method with IR remotes, but it doesn't work at my home, and I just assumed this was do to having flat paint.

I have dark gray flat paint on my bedroom walls. The colour doesn't really matter as far as bouncing IR signals.

I wouldn't think color would matter, but the sheen could.

I guess the ATV behind the TV doesn't work with my setup. I think it is probably the sheen of the paint, although, you said you have flat paint too.

Either way, on top of the TV works perfectly, and sometimes is nice being able to see the indicator light on the front of the ATV. The downside being that it is visible, but it looks pretty nice and blends in with my setup.
