So I have spent the past few hours trying to get my iPad to connect to my laptop via an outside network using Splashtop, but have had no success.

Most of the time, I will be connecting to an external wifi network on my ipad's wifi while my MBA is at home connected to my home wifi. I may also tether my iPad to my iPhone with iTether, and then connect to my MBA via Splashtop (when no WiFi is available).

Home Wifi Router: Airport Express
iPad: 16GB JB iPad
Laptop: MBA 10.6.5

Client: Splashtop Remote and iPad app.

So far, when I set up a static IP, I go and input it into my Network Settings, I set Port Forwarding to Public Port 5800, with access to Splashtop port 6783 and the static IP i want to connect to.

Here are the problems. When I do this, I can no longer connect to the internet on my MBA. The 2nd problem, I still can not connect to my MBA on my iPad.

I appreciate any help. Thanks.
