Remount external disk to RW?

I'm running Catalina on a cMP 2010. The OS disk is a Samsung SM951 SSD mounted on a PCI 3.0 4x slot. I'm trying to hide the icon on the desktop, but because the admin has only read only permissions, all commands fail.

Code: 
$ sudo chflags hidden /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/
$ sudo SetFile -a V /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/

Can I go into Recovery and execute any of the commands above? Will the disk be mounted into Volumes?
