Apple, please make the hard drive removable in the next Macbook, as they were previously. I have changed my internal HD at least 3 times in my current MBP. People do not want to relinquish their entire laptops for repair of their hard drives. I really want a new MBP, but am considering not getting one for this reason only.

I don't think it will happen, OG.

Make regular backups of your data. And if your workflow is time sensitive, it would be best to have a backup Mac for emergency use. If you have covered, I see no reason not to get a new MBP of your liking.

We've moved on, apparently, from swappable components. I'm thinking backups are the solution to the no-can-do hard removal method of days before.

A Fishrrman absolutely-fearless prediction:

No Mac (with the possible exception of the upcoming Mac Pro's) will EVER have removable drives or RAM again.

Going forth from TODAY... whatever m-series Mac you buy... is "what you get" for the life of the computer.

(that is all... nothing follows...)

Backups are really not equivalent to hard drive removal. Backups are good to do (hard to get in the habit of doing for some older people--like me) to maintain/recover data. Am having a hard time getting my head around having to purchase a new computer periodically because a drive can fail. That being said, how much more reliable are SSDs or nvme than the traditional spinning platter equivalents?

Am glad that I resurrected an offspring's discarded 2012 13" MBP--replaced the display (after I broke the LCD screen trying to pry off the broken glass), upgraded RAM, and installed an SSD to replace a failing HDD--am satisfied with its performance. If i ever get around to it, I will replace the keyboard so I can use the left sided shift, ctrl and another button.

With the inevitable tidal wave of inflation, companies will have to continue to try to keep their production costs down otherwise products will be out of reach for many consumers. That certainly means that the days of having consumer electronics with user replaceable parts will be in the distant past very soon.
