Hi. I'm a golfer with an iPhone 4. It is illegal under the rules of golf to use this phone with a golf GPS app because of the Compass app. I don't want to get into a big discussion about why this is. It's stupid, but it's a rule.

My question is very simple. If I jailbreak my phone, can I REMOVE (not hide) the compass app?

Can anyone suggest the simplest way of doing this?

I know people have just SSHed into /Applications/ then deleted the app, you will see Compass.app and you can delete it. I don't see any issues with doing this, but I've never tried it myself.

You could simply delete the compass icon as a simple fix. If you really need to get rid of it, you could delete the compass.app folder and that'll remove the app from your phone.

not sure if this will work, but if you jailbreak your phone, and edit the n90.plist file. There is a flag called "magnetometer" or something like that. Setting it to false may disable the compass. Apps will that would normally have functions that use the compass would be disabled as well. They will think you have a iPhone 2G or 3G.

My iP4 is currently not jailbroken. (I'm trying to get used to non jb features for when IOS 5 drops.) So I can't test it out myself.
