I am currently using a Gmail IMAP setup in Mail.app. Everything is working great, and with a Gmail Labs feature called Advanced IMAP Settings, I have hidden all of the main Gmail folders, like All Mail and Starred. I've already integrated folders like Sent and Trash with Mail.app's mailboxes.

Because of these, the [Gmail] folder in my account is completely empty. I now wish to remove it from the sidebar, since I don't need it there. How can I accomplish this?

Set imap folder prefix in settings to [Gmail]. This will set [Gmail] as your root folder.

I dunno the answer but how do you integrate Trash & Sent?

Highlight the "Sent" folder, then go to Mailbox->Use Mailbox for -> Sent and the mailbox will magically move up towards the top of the sidebar.

Repeat for Trash, Drafts, etc.

I tried that, but all my Labels dissapeared. I still need access to those.

EDIT: I got them back. I just had to remove the prefix. But is there any way to do this and keep my labels?

How do you then "Archive" emails, like in the web interface of Gmail? Linking the folders is great, however if I delete a message from my mailbox, it goes to the trash.

Deleting the email only deletes it from the Inbox. If you go back to gmail.com you'll see that it is still listed in the All Mail folder, which is exactly what Archiving is, it only shows up in the 'All Mail' folder.

Not if you send it to Gmail’s Trash. If you want to be able to archive like Gmail does, don’t map the Trash folder.

How to completely remove gmail from mail

It seems many have devoted a lot of time explaining the best way to use gmail with mac mail, but I can't find any advice on how to completely remove my gmail account from mac mail. I have already remove the account, but I still see all the email files in the library. How do I completely remove all traces of my gmail account including the near 10,000 emails it downloaded from my gmail account? I don't want that stuff using hard drive space. Thanks in advance!
