Hi all new to MAC OS long time iPhone and iPad user.
I recently inherited a 2015 MAC Book Pro 13" from my son.
There is as u know a what seems to be a protective coating the
screen. It seems to have a bunch of surface scratches.
Can I remove them and or if not what can I use to get the
screen to look as pristine as possible.

Thanks

Unless your son added some other layer himself, MBPs do not come with protective coating. What you see is probably matte - antireflective layer. I had Apple fix mine (it was peeling off) - they replaced display under AppleCare. AFAIK it cannot be fixed. It can be removed, but not sure if there is safe way to do so. Not sure if anyone has method to reapply it or fix it, never saw anything on this.

Thank you very much maybe a trip to apple is called for or a call to customer support

Apple has been known to fix these if it is in fact the anti-glare coating coming off. I’d take it into an Apple store and try to get it replaced. I had a 15” out of warranty 2015 that I took in and they replaced it no charge.

OP:

IF you have a brick n mortar Apple Store nearby, take it to them IMMEDIATELY.
That means later today or tomorrow.
DON'T WAIT !!!

They might offer to replace the display.
But time is running out... may have already run out.
So... if you wait... it will be "too late".

If they WON'T fix it, and if you can't live with it, be aware that some people have "scrubbed off" ALL of the sprayed-on protective coating. There are youtube videos on how to do this.
Be aware that once the coating is removed, the display will be "glossy" and you'll have to live with that. But the scratches will be gone.
