I have a jail broken 3.1.2 iphone and want one page. Is there any way to get rid of spotlight without downgrading to 2.x? I looked across the internet and the best I found was a mod to remove the spotlight icon. It is a step in the right direction, but not what I was hoping for.

I never wanted spotlight either, then I installed universal search and I use it all the time. I know it's not what you asked for, but if you find it useful then it won't bother you:D.

Sorry to dredge up this old topic, but I was hoping that in the new OS there would be a way to turn of this "feature" I find utterly useless. There are ways to control what Spotlight Search looks for, but why can't we turn it off altogether. I don't see anything in Cydia to do it.

This would be an app I would gladly pay $1.99 for.

Settings/General/Spotlight Search in iOS 4 can turn off everything. Speeds up phone by eliminating indexing of all that stuff.

I don't know of any way to remove it or another way to shut it down other than this.

When I go there, I see a list of search options. Even if I turn every one of them off, Spotlight Search still comes up when you push the Home button when on the first screen. I don't know what it would be searching for at that point, because all the search options are turned off at that point, but it still comes up.

Agreed, but it should at least speed up the phone by eliminating all that indexing.

OK - Now that we're Jailbroken, I used Activator to reassign the Home button at the Home screen.

I set it to iSteamy and I'm all set.

EDIT: No, this doesn't quite work right either. If you have a folder open on the Home screen and push the button, you would think it would close the folder. But it doesn't - it activates the key assignment as if the folder wasn't open.

Oh well...

A few things work with activator clicking the home button at the home screen. Opening lockinfo infoshade works. A few other things do to, but a few things do the activator action, and still go to spotlight.

Can't you disable spotlight by removing the launch daemon plist?

As far as I'm aware no one has managed to find a way to remove the spotlight page yet.

I used to set Overboard to the home button on the springboard, still waiting on a iOS 4 update.

I used to use fivelrows. Select clear springdots and the would delete spotlight too. (3.1.2) but as far as ios4 I've not come close!! :s if you do feel free to let me know ;)

i'm curious about this as well...not that much on my iphone (at least, i know where everything is).

would be great to be able to 'hide' the spotlight screen...

anyone?

This works on jb ip4 on 4.0.1 as well. Friend of mine found it in Cydia, and it is the best thing I have ever done to my phone.

Weird, I installed it and did a re spring and it is still showing up.

Edit - tried reinstalling and still no luck. iPhone 4 with 4.1.

Alternative NoSpot source

NoSpot isn't a winterboard app. The only way to toggle the NoSpot package is from the MobleSubstrate toggles in SBSettings.

There is another source for NoSpot inside of the cydia.xsellize.com repo.
So open cydia --> Manage --> Sources --> Edit then Add "http://cydia.xsellize.com". Let it reload the packages. Then type in "nospot" in search. You should be presented with two NoSpot packages. Uninstall the one from the BigBoss repo then install the xsellize version.

Not sure if that will help since the BigBoss package worked fine for me. But its worth a shot. No?:)

Tried this suggestion and...

it worked!! Perfectly... Thank you so much!

I LOVE it!!!

I LOVE 'nospot' cydia app. There is a free version or whatever in the xsellize repo. Also, for those who want to disable the bookmarks page in safari from opening up, there is a 'No Bookmarks' tweak in cydia. The one on bigboss requires ios 4, but the one in the xsellize repo works for all iPhones. Mine is an original, aluminum backed 2g iPhone on tmobile. Works like a charm for me.

I hate spotlight and the bookmarks page.

You can still access bookmarks by hitting the book icon.

this marks the time...

I think all of apple's mistakes can be bypassed with cydia apps/tweaks now! Before NoSpot and No Bookmarks, those were the 2 things that pissed me off most and now they are gone all thanks to cydia! There's also 'smoothboard,' 'nolockscreen' and cool stuff like that. How can I donate to the people who cracked nospot and nobookmarks to allow installation on a 3.1.3 device?
