Remove text from Video clip

I am trying to erase the text(5 lines of text) and add my own text to the Video clip using Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Express. Could you please help?

Is this a video file with the text already in it, or are you working in a Final Cut project file?

I'm confused. Please elaborate.
