Remove Virtual CD on Western Digital 2TB My Book External Hard Drive

Hi, I just purchased a 2TB Western Digital My Book External Hard Drive for my Mac Pro which is running Snow Leopard. I haven't received it yet but I want to make sure that I know the proper procedure in order to remove the Virtual CD and Smartware Software that it comes bundled with.

Do I just download the Virtual CD Manager and remove it that way? Do I need to update the firmware on the external drive? I plan on formatting the external drive as Mac OS X Extended Journaled. When Can I format the external? After I remove the Virtual CD and Smartware software or before?

Any info is greatly appreciated
