Can I remove any of the apps. that were pre-installed on my MacBook? I have no use for garage band, iwork and one or two others. Can I safely uninstall these?

Thanks

yes, drag them to trash can and empty trash

then spotlight search the name of the app and drag all related files, folders to trash can and empty trash.

Yep. Just trash 'em. GB also stores a large amount of data in /Library/Application Support/ (as does iDVD), so make sure you ditch this stuff too - it'll save you several Gb of HD space.

You could also use AppCleaner to automatically find all the files associated with the apps, and trash them.
