removing external HDD from spotlight disable search?

At my iMac i have 3 external hard drive connected 1 for TM and 2 for files
Each time I use spotlight i get some results of backup files od duplicated files that intentionally I keep on my external hard drives.

If I exclude the external HDD from spotlight index I would not be able to search even with finder or it would be slower?

If you exclude a drive (or folder) using the Privacy tab of the Spotlight system preferences then it also excludes it from Finder searches. (This is with 10.11.6, but I don't think it has changed with newer OS's.)
