I want to remove a movie from my iTunes library to free up the 1GB of space, but I purchased it and do not want to loose the ability to copy it back to watch it again. That is, I'd like to copy it to an archive disk, but am afraid that I might get locked out of it forever, etc.

Does anyone know how this can/does work? Is there protection, or other files I need to copy with it etc.

Thanks,

Carter

Yes you can move the file. iTunes will know it's purchased content if and when you move it back.
