Removing unwanted fonts

I have tried over and over to remove a font from my Font Book, there is an option to remove, but nothing happens. I can disable it. Will this be fixed if I upgrade to Ventura? Been putting that off.

The fonts that ship with the operating system can't be removed. But you can turn them off (deactivate) so they don't clutter your menus.
