Could not find an answer to this, and I don't remember having this on my desktop years ago when I installed Windows under Bootcamp. As part of the setup process, MacOS/Bootcamp created the WinInstall partition that houses the Windows install files. However, now that the setup is complete, is there a way to get ride of it, or at the minimum hide the disk from appearing on my desktop?

While on macOS you can eject both, WinInstall and Windows HD, so that they don't appear on your Desktop.
I don’t know if it’s safe to delete it. Someone with more experience about Bootcamp can advise you better.

I do that typically, but would be nice if there was a way to just get ride of it.

Make a backup of the partition, then delete it. If Windows still boots, it means it's not needed.
