drive is split 50/50

10.7 and 10.6 as dual boot. drive names is: lion and snow.

however when i boot with "alt" key pressed to choose a system, i see: lion and EFI boot.

how do i rename the EFI boot into snow ? is that some hidden alias for a partition ?

Renaming Your EFI Boot Partition

There are two ways of going about this, me personally, would choose to boot into Safe Mode to make this process an adventure, but I'm assuming you want this done quick and efficiently with no hassle. You will want to open up Disk Utility, then from there you should see the EFI Boot Partition in the column to the left with all of your various partitions, drives, and CD's. You should be able to rename it from there. Also, I'm assuming you used rEFIt to create the EFI boot partition because you were trying to boot from a USB drive, but since OS X uses EFI format you weren't able to do that.

disk utility does not help. the drive shows as SNOW (correct as i want it), but when i boot to select a partition, the name shown is EFI boot.

The clone that I recently created of my MacBook, with Carbon Copy Cloner, also appears as EFI boot, when starting with the Option key pressed. I assumed this was because I had omitted the Movies and Pictures folders from the clone because of lack of space on the external drive. Would that be right?

Yes, that'd be correct as far as I can tell.
