Ok so I've searched all through system preferences etc.

I can rename my user-account, and I am the only user(/admin).

I'd like to rename my actual Mac, as its current name is annoying and too long in finder. Could someone please tell me how, if it is possible.

Thanks in advance.

It's in Sharing in the System Preferences.

Wow I'm so stupid, thanks.

But, also how do I rename my "Home" folder? It's still showing up with the extended name.

Well that's the most ridiculous thing ever.

Thanks.

Now, where's the "What do you hate about Macs" thread gone?

The simplest way is creating a new (administrator) user and transferring your files over. Make sure to copy over the Library/Application Support and Preferences folders to keep all of your prefs, bookmarks, Mail stuff, etc.

Cheers for that.

I'm a bit too tired tonight to be messing around with stuff. Might leave it for a while. I just had the idea when i was in a lecture and my tutor's Home name was simply "Ian". I thought to myself "Why is mine my first and surname all lower case - no space! I want Ian's!"

But I guess he's been a Mac user for a lot longer than me, and knew what he was doing in startup out the box, as opposed to me racing through setup to have a play. Sigh.

Lol. While I was waiting for my iMac (my first mac) I read David Pogue's Missing Manual for Panther and his short name was "dp." Thus, every time I reinstall mac I just use "nl" for my account. Two or three letters makes for the perfect short name, if you ask me. When you create a new user it should automatically recommend your initials instead of your whole name together.

I'd be more disappointed. But knowing that I'm going to be buying Macs for along time to come makes it easier. I'll have a lot more practice to get it right first time.
