I'm very... very new to macs. I renamed my "home" folder (with my computer name on it) to something new. When I restarted the computer, literally all my settings for all my programs were removed.

I copied the various folders back in - but i'm wondering - did I damage or corrupt my Mac by doing that? Should I reformat?

Here is the proper way to recover from doing that.

As long as your computer seems to be behaving properly now, you should be okay.

Hahaha, I actually did the same thing once (I'm sure many of us have). :p If I recall correctly, I simply renamed the folder to its original name and all was fixed.

omg! i did this when i first got my mac! i was sooooooooo pissssed off and disapointed! i reformated after it cause nothing was the same. i wish i asked you guys before hand. naming it back to its original name... i wish i thought of that
