Ok so I've never had a problem with this before using FCE4. When I place items in the timeline they don't automatically render themselves so I have to take time to render it each and every time. That really slows my editing process down.

Can someone please help me? Why is this happening?

I just wait till Im either done editing a small portion or when I take a break for a little bit and tell it to render manually. OPTION+R renders all in FCE

Jay, there's a key command to view the footage through a render so you don't have to wait. I'm not on my mac right now so i can't quote it directly, but search for render in the manual's index. It will be there. It's real simple...I'm just having a mind fart right now.
